BIOGRAPHY OF JOE NOLFO
Joe Nolfo of Dunedin is a kindred soul for those of us with a real passion for adventure and life challenges! His entire adult life, has been a “true testament” to challenging endurance of his handicap, his heart, mind and soul! Refusing to allow his own disabilities, nor his fears, hold him back from the pursuit of true life adventure! Joe once sailed a twenty-eight foot sailboat solo from Dunedin, Florida to Vara-Daro, Cuba where he then, backpacked across the Cuban countryside for three months while writing about the experience. This was for a publication to benefit the endangered Florida Manatee. Also for the Florida Manatee, Joe Nolfo often performs in small stand-up comedy routines around the state of Florida in a fun show he wrote, named “Stand up for Manatees”. In the year 2005 Joe rode a motorcycle solo around the entire perimeter of the United States in order to assist the Center for People with Disabilities of Colorado, logging over fifteen thousand miles of roads through thirty two states, some of them even twice. These accomplishments are quite impressive and you should know that the author himself performed all these above named feats while he himself is physically challenged. Joe lost his left leg in a hit and run crime in 1981,a crime that was never solved and left an eighteen year old Joe Nolfo destitute and penniless having to start life over from scratch even having to learn to walk again. Joe went on to his incredible life of adventure on land and sea crossing many oceans and countries in his attempts to quench his insatiable thirst for life and all it has to offer. Joe’s novels are genuine works. The perfect twist of his own personal experiences and adventure. Occasionally borrowing from real life characters from his travels through the United States, Central America and the Caribbean blending facts and fictions producing a genuine and compelling piece of literature! Joe’s paintings ( available upon request ) are also imprints from his travels and lean towards nautical folk-art that could have been seen hanging on a 1950’s fish camp marina. Joe Nolfo is also a master saltwater taxidermist with extensive experience in painting of trophy fish from a pan-fish sized red snapper to a giant blue marlin like the one’s his hero Ernest Hemingway boated so many years ago. Often, the author and self proclaimed “Comedian” is seen cruising around the streets on his Can Am Spyder or flying across the waves on his Waverunner. His love of the wind in his hair still remains! That is of course, while not immersed in his next book.
